Privacy policy
Last updated October 12, 2026
Camo View is a document editor with a writing assistant. It is built so that your documents stay in your browser, on your device. This policy explains what that means, what leaves your device when you ask for writing, and what we keep about your account.
Camo View is operated by Camoview LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Camo View website at https://camoview.pages.dev, the editor and the account pages.
The short version
- Your documents, versions, sources and voice profile are stored in your browser on your device. We don’t have a copy, and there is no cloud sync.
- Text leaves your device only when you make a writing request. The request, and the passages or sources it needs, go to our server and to third-party AI model providers that generate the response.
- Our server doesn’t store the text of your requests or of the responses. It keeps word counts, the status and the time of each request.
- An account holds your email address, your plan and your usage. If you subscribe to Pro, we also keep Stripe’s identifiers for your subscription. Stripe handles your card; we never see it.
- There are no analytics or advertising trackers on the site, and we don’t sell your personal information.
What stays on your device
The editor saves your work in your browser’s own storage (IndexedDB) on the device you’re using. That includes your documents with their tabs, comments and version history, the sources you add, your voice profile, your presets and your settings.
Signing in doesn’t upload any of it. There is no cloud copy of your documents and no sync between devices. Because this data lives only on your device, we can’t see it, recover it or delete it for you. Clearing your browser’s data for the site can remove it.
To keep a copy, or to move your work to another device, open Storage & privacy in the editor’s document library and choose Download private backup. Then use Import backup on the other device. A private backup never includes passwords or your sign-in session.
Request history
The editor can list your past writing requests under Activity. This has its own switch, Keep writing request history, and it is off unless you turn it on. When it’s on, the list is stored on your device only.
Exports
When you use Share a copy, the file is made in your browser and saved to your device. Exports don’t automatically include your prompts, sources, voice profile or version history. You can choose to remove supported personal metadata, such as author and date fields.
The homepage demo
The examples on the homepage are prewritten. The demo makes no AI requests and doesn’t save your edits.
What a writing request sends
A writing request is any time you ask the assistant for text: a request typed between arrows, a rewrite command, the side panel, building a voice profile, or the optional refinement pass. When you make one, the editor sends what that request needs to Camo View’s server:
- the request itself;
- the passage or document text the request works on (on Free, a limited amount of surrounding context);
- your standing instructions, tone and length settings, and your voice profile description if you’ve turned it on;
- when you build a voice profile, the writing sample you provide;
- on Pro, any reference sources you’ve switched on for that request.
Our server checks your account and your allowance. It then sends the request to third-party AI model providers, acting as our service providers, which generate the response. The response comes back to your browser and is typed into your page. The optional refinement pass sends only the passage being refined, with a tone and strength setting.
Our server doesn’t keep the text of requests or responses. For each request it records the words counted against your allowance, the request’s status, the time, and a one-way hash used to stop the same request being charged twice. It never records the text itself. Our server’s logs record outcome codes, not your writing.
The AI model providers process the text to produce the response. They may keep records of requests for a limited time under their own terms, for example to detect abuse. That retention is set by them, not by us.
Don’t include information in a writing request that you aren’t allowed to share with a service provider. If you never make a writing request, none of your text leaves your device.
What we collect
When you create an account
- Email address. Used to sign you in, confirm your account, reset your password and contact you about your account.
- Password. Handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form. We never see it in plain text.
- Account records. When your account was created and confirmed.
- Plan and usage. Your plan, your Free allowance period and the words used, and for each writing request its word counts, status and time.
If you subscribe to Pro
You enter your payment details on Stripe’s own checkout page. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us. We give Stripe an internal account identifier so it can link the subscription to your account. In return we store Stripe’s customer and subscription identifiers, the price, the subscription’s status, the current period’s dates, and whether it is set to cancel.
Technical information
- IP address. When your browser contacts our server, we use your IP address to apply rate limits and prevent abuse. We store it only as a salted hash, never as the address itself.
- Bot check. The sign-in, sign-up and password-reset pages run a bot check provided by Cloudflare (Turnstile). Cloudflare processes information about your browser and connection to tell people from automated traffic.
- Hosting and backend. Our hosting and backend providers process standard technical information, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and handle requests.
When you contact us
If you email support, we keep your message and our reply so we can help you.
We don’t ask for your name, phone number or postal address, and we don’t use analytics or advertising trackers.
How we use information
- To provide Camo View: signing you in, processing your writing requests, counting usage and applying your plan.
- To bill Pro subscriptions through Stripe.
- To send account emails, such as confirmation and password-reset messages, and to answer support requests.
- To protect the service and its users, through rate limits, abuse prevention and bot checks.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Service providers
We use a small number of service providers. Each one receives only what it needs to provide its part of the service.
- Cloudflare hosts the website and the editor (Cloudflare Pages) and provides the bot check on the account pages.
- Supabase runs our backend: accounts and sign-in, the database that holds plans and usage, and the server functions that handle writing requests.
- Third-party AI model providers generate the responses to writing requests.
- Stripe processes Pro payments and runs the billing page.
- An email delivery provider sends account emails, such as confirmation and password-reset messages.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users, the public or Camo View.
Cookies and local storage
Camo View doesn’t set cookies of its own, and the site has no analytics or advertising trackers. Instead, it uses your browser’s storage:
- Local storage keeps your sign-in session in this browser until you sign out, along with small preferences and the editor’s working state.
- IndexedDB keeps your documents and the related data described above.
The bot check on the sign-in, sign-up and password-reset pages is loaded from Cloudflare, which may use its own technologies to tell people from automated traffic. Signing out removes your session from this browser.
How long we keep information
- Data on your device stays until you delete it, or until your browser clears the site’s storage.
- Your account, plan and usage records are kept while your account exists, and are removed when your account is deleted.
- Abuse-prevention records use salted hashes, never raw IP addresses. Short-term rate counters are cleared within days and the abuse event log after 14 days.
- Daily totals of words and requests across all accounts contain no account identifier and are kept as aggregate statistics.
- Payment records are kept by Stripe under its own obligations.
- AI model providers’ records follow those providers’ retention.
- Support emails are kept only as long as needed to help you and keep a record of the request.
Records of a deleted account can remain in our private database backups until those backups are replaced.
Your choices and rights
- Use the editor without an account. Editing, saving, exporting and version history work without an account. You need one only for the writing tools.
- Keep request history off. It is off unless you turn it on, and it stays on your device.
- Access and correction. Email us from the address on your account and we’ll tell you what we hold about you and correct anything that’s wrong. You can change your password at any time with a password reset.
- Other rights. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, or to object to how it’s used. Email us and we’ll respond within the time the law requires. We may need to confirm that you own the account first.
Erasing, canceling and deleting are three different things
Erase data on this device
In the editor’s document library, open Storage & privacy and choose Clear local data, or open Preferences → Privacy → Erase everything. This removes the documents, versions, sources, voice profile and settings stored in this browser. It can’t be undone, and it may also sign you out of this browser. It doesn’t delete your account and doesn’t cancel a subscription.
Cancel a subscription
Open the account menu, choose Plans, then Manage billing. This opens Stripe’s billing page, where you can cancel. Pro continues until the end of the period you’ve paid for, then your account returns to Free. Canceling doesn’t delete your account or anything on your device.
Delete your account
Email support@camoview.com from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. There is no self-serve button; we do it for you. Deletion removes your account, your plan and your usage records. It doesn’t touch anything stored on your devices, and it doesn’t cancel a subscription by itself, so cancel Pro first.
Want to keep your work? Before you erase anything or delete your account, open Storage & privacy and choose Download private backup. It saves your documents, versions and sources to a file on your device.
Children
Camo View is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold. Connections to the site and to our server use HTTPS. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored hashed. Account, plan and usage records can’t be read or changed from a browser; only our server functions can reach them. IP addresses are stored only as salted hashes. Backups and exports made in the editor never include your password or sign-in session.
No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee the security of information. Keep your password private and your device protected. If you find a security problem, please tell us at support@camoview.com.
International processing
Our service providers operate in more than one country, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live. Data-protection rules in those countries may differ from your own. By using Camo View, you understand that your information may be processed in other countries.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we’ll give notice on the site or by email before it takes effect.
